OVERVIEW

SIREN DETECTOR
Now known as Fire Safety Sensor

Our patented Siren Detector is an easy and inexpensive way to get comprehensive fire, smoke and carbon monoxide monitoring. When there is smoke, fire, or carbon monoxide in your home and your existing detector sounds a loud alarm, the Siren Detector “hears” the alarm and sends a signal to the Central Monitoring Station to send help.  This article is only for Siren Detector version 1 also known as Fire Safety Sensor.

HOW TO SET UP AND INSTALL THE GRID EXTENDER – STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Before installing, you need to determine which in-home detector will be the “Target” hazard detector. Many homes have several smoke/fire detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. The Siren Detector needs to be placed within 3 inches of one of your existing sensors.  We recommend placing a Siren Detector in each level of your home. As with all sensors, your Siren Detector also needs to be within 30 feet of your Base, Console, Cellular Gateway, Grid Controller or Handset. If it is not within range, the system may not receive the signal.

Before you set up your Siren Detector, you need to set up and install your security system and have a Console available to use
  • Remove Siren Detector Bracket. Do this by turning over the sensor so you see the bottom, and pressing release tab while gently pulling bracket away from device.
  • Place Installation Template on ceiling or wall next to existing target hazard detector (smoke alarm or carbon monoxide detector) and use a pencil or pen to mark locations of the two screw hole openings.
  • Attach Fire Safety Sensor Bracket to ceiling using one of two methods:
    • Double-Sided Tape: Remove paper backing from double-sided tape. Place bracket slightly below ceiling so that arrow inside bracket faces hazard detector. Press bracket onto ceiling.
    • Screws and Anchors: Drill a ¼ inch hole in each of the marks made using installation template. Insert wall anchors. Secure bracket to ceiling with screws, making sure arrow on bracket points towards hazard detector.
  • Remove Battery Insulator Tab by pulling tab straight out. Press lightly on battery to make sure battery is securely in place (you can throw tab away).
  • Install Siren Detector by snapping it into installed bracket on ceiling or wall.

To add Siren Detector to Security System using Console:
  • On Console, Press MENU.
  • Scroll to Security Setup and press SELECT.
    • Enter Master Code
  • Scroll to Sensors and press SELECT.
  • Scroll to <Add New> and press SELECT.
  • Scroll to Siren Detector and press SELECT.
  • Following instructions displayed on Console, wait 5 seconds, then press button on Siren Detector and the system should “find” Siren Detector.
  • Follow directions on Console and press “Test” button on hazard detector (the smoke or carbon monoxide detector).  If test passes, Console will display “Siren Detector Added”
    • Note: If test does not pass within 10–12 seconds of siren sounding, then hazard detector may need to have the batteries replaced or detector itself may need to be replaced
  • Once Siren Detector passes test, it is added to security system. Press “Edit” to change name of Sensor, then press OK.
  • Scroll down to select type of hazard detector being used with this Siren Detector: options include “Smoke/Fire”, “Carbon Monoxide”, and ‘Both” if you have a dual detector (this will determine which message is sent to central monitoring center during an emergency).
  • Press OK to return to main menu.

SOLUTION TO SIREN DETECTOR - SENSOR NOT FOUND

If you have tried to add the Siren Detector to your security system and the sensor is not being detected by the system, you may need to follow some additional steps.
If you are trying to add the Siren Detector to the security system using the Console and it isn’t working, it may be for one of these reasons:
Battery Contact: Sometimes the battery doesn’t make good contact within the Siren Detector. Try opening the Siren Detector, adjusting the battery, replacing the cover, and trying again to add it using the Console.
Siren Sound: The smoke/fire detector or carbon monoxide detector the Siren Detector is next to needs to emit a loud, consistent sound. If you have a talking siren, a quiet one, or one that makes musical tones, the siren detector will not work. Try placing the siren detector next to a different smoke alarm or purchase one that fits that criteria.
Range : Siren Detector may be too far away from Console, Base, Cellular Gateway, Handset, or Grid Extender. The Siren Detector, like all sensors, needs to be within 30 feet of one of the grid controllers. Try moving Siren Detector closer to system and try again.

SOLUTION TO SIREN DETECTOR - "LOW BATT" (LOW BATTERY)

If you get an alert on the Console, Handset, or in Blue by ADT notifying you that the Siren Detector has “Low Bat,” you should check the battery and possibly replace it. The notice means the Sensor may not work properly.
To Check the Siren Detector Battery:
  • Remove Siren Detector cover, separating it from bracket on ceiling.
  • Remove Battery and leave it out for 30 seconds; then put Battery back into Sensor cover and snap Siren Detector cover back onto bottom bracket still on ceiling.
  • Check Console or Blue by ADT to see if “Low Bat” message has gone away.
If “Low Batt” message is still displayed, you will need to replace the battery.

To Order a New Battery:
Log in to Blue by ADT, click on “Shop” tab, and find “Siren Detector Batteries (2pk)” listed under “Accessories.”

When battery arrives, replace battery as follows:
  • Remove Siren Detector cover, separating it from bracket on ceiling.
  • Remove Battery and replace it with new one.
  • Snap Siren Detector cover back onto bottom bracket still on ceiling.
  • Check Console or Blue by ADT to see if “Low Bat” message has gone away.
If “Low Bat” message persists, contact Technical Support at 877-464-7437

SOLUTION TO SIREN DETECTOR - "TMPR" (TAMPER)

TMPR is short for “Tamper” and appears when a sensor is tampered with or not installed correctly. When the Siren Detector is properly installed, the button under the sensor is pressed and the system knows that the sensor is active and ready. But sometimes a Siren Detector bracket is not installed properly and won’t work.
If you see this error message, make sure that the sensor is secured in the bracket and pressed
