Overview

The motion sensor is designed to protect the interior of your home. When movement is detected and your security system is armed, it will trigger the alarm. This sensor is set-up by default to be used only in Away mode when all people leave the house.

Installing your motion sensor

Sensors included with your kit

To setup the motion sensors in your kit, please remove them from the box labeled “Step 3” and go through the following steps:

  1. Open the sensor by pressing the tab on the bottom of motion sensor
  2. Pull the battery tab and re-insert the battery to activate the motion sensor
  3. Realign the back cover with the motion sensor to close the sensor

Adding new accessory ordered motion sensors

To add additional motion sensors, or if you removed one, go to Settings (the top right gear on apps) > Devices > Click on the + button at the top of the list of devices > select Sensors > then select Motion. Once you see the screen that says "Finding your device," follow the instructions on the screen (also above) to add the sensor.

Placing your motion sensors

  1. Determine where to place the motion sensor

    • Motion sensors should have a clear line of sight to the desired area and should be free of any objects such as curtains or furniture.
    • Avoid areas that can cause false alarms such as near air conditioning/heating units, fans, or in direct sunlight.
    • The recommended mounting height is 7 - 9 feet.
  2. Adhere the tape to the back of the sensor.
  3. Place the motion sensor in the desired location.
Quick Tip: Make sure that you do not mount the motion sensor upside down!

Changing the name and settings

To change the settings of your motion sensors, use your Touchpad or login into the web portal, iOS or Android app and go to Settings (the top right gear on apps) > Devices > under Sensors > select desired sensors name to edit the name and sensor settings.

Alarm type

To learn about alarm types, please see Arming Your System

  • Stay & Away: Sensors will be monitored in both stay and away modes

  • Away only: Sensors will be monitored only when the system is armed away

  • Convenience: Sensors can be configured to chime or create a local alarm when the sensor is faulted (this can be used for cabinets or drawers that do not require emergency assistance when opened)

Chime

Chimes are used to alert the user audibly when motion is detected. Set the toggle to off in order to turn off the Chimes if desired.

Advanced settings

Advanced settings give customers flexibility to take advantage of sensor features or to toggle on and off features that may be required for false alarm prevention.

  • Swinger shutdown - This settings allows users to register sensors in the system wide swinger shutdown feature. Swinger shutdown is a false alarm prevention tool that prevents alarms from going off for a specific sensor if it has tripped an alarm multiple times in a 5-minute window. The system default for the number of times a sensor can trip before swinger shutdown kicks in for that sensor is 2. This can be modified under the Security system settings, under Advanced Settings.

  • Abort window time - The abort window is a feature tied to CP01, which is a false alarm prevention standard that gives a customer 30 seconds before the alarm is sent to the central monitoring station. This gives the customer a little longer to disarm the system in case the alarm was in error. If you would like the alarm to immediately go to the central monitoring station you must toggle this off.

  • Cross zoning - By turning cross zoning on in a sensor's advanced setting, it will require that it and the other cross zoned sensors be tripped before the system will enter into entry delay or alarm. For example, if you have a front door and a living room sensor with cross zoning on and the system is armed away, you will need to walk through the door and then motion must be detected before the system will begin entry delay.
