Overview
Convenience sensors are sensors that have been added to your system that are not monitored for burglary alarms, but that you may want alerts or local alarms for. This may be a sensor for an interior door like a kids room or liquor cabinet, or it may be for things like motion in your garage or outside to detect and alert you when someone is in an area of your property. Some sensors, like water, temperature, and tilt are convenience sensor by default.
Convenience sensors act as normal sensors in the application, you can setup alerts with them, you can make them chime when tripped to provide you with an audible alert, or they can set off a local alarm. A use case for this is if you have a water sensor at your hot water heater that is looking for any sign of a leak. If the water sensor trips, you may want to have a local alarm go off if the water heater is in your basement and not something you check every day. This will make everyone in the house aware that there is something that they should deal with. An additional example of this is temperature. If you have a temperature sensor that goes below your low threshold in your basement, you may want to have a local alarm go off so you can address the problem with your heat before the pipes freeze.
Setting a device to a convenience sensor
In order to change a device to a convenience sensor, you can go to Settings > Devices and choose the sensor you would like to update. Under the alarm type, choose "Convenience," then select the sound type you would like to associate with the device if it is faulted.
Changing a convenience sensor back to monitored
If you decide you want to monitor a sensor that was previously set as a convenience sensor, you can easily change this back by going to Settings > Devices and then choosing "Armed Stay" or "Armed Stay and Away" in the alarm type drop down. |
