The Blue by ADT Motion Sensor helps protect your family by letting you know when movement is detected inside your home. This pet-friendly motion sensor is easy to set up, and you can get instant alerts with our free mobile app.
Setting up a Blue by ADT Motion Sensor
Included in box:
Motion sensor
CR123A Battery
Mounting hardware
Corner bracket
Double-sided tape
Before you get started
You will need:
Blue by ADT Smart Home Hub
Blue by ADT app on the latest iOS or Android OS
Phillips screwdriver or a drill with a Phillips driver bit (optional)
Power drill with drill bits for pilot holed (optional)
Pairing
The Blue by ADT Smart Home Hub is the controlling hub that communicates with your sensors. To pair your sensors with the Blue Smart Home Hub, launch your Blue by ADT app. Once logged in, select Menu > Devices >(+) Add Device > Sensors > Motion Sensor, and follow the in-app setup guide to pair your sensor.
Note: Sensors and devices in a Blue by ADT system are preconfigured so that they will already be paired to your system and can be added by simply removing the battery tab, as shown in the following steps.
To enable a new sensor:
When the CR123A battery is inserted into the Blue by ADT Motion Sensor, the blue LED will blink for 90 seconds, which indicates the pairing process is occurring.
If pairing is successful, the blue LED will be solid on for 3 seconds. If pairing fails, the red LED will be solid on for 3 seconds.
If pairing fails, press and hold the pairing button for 5 seconds to restart the pairing process.
To make sure the detection function is working properly, a walk test should be performed annually.
Mapping location
Before selecting a position for the sensor, the following should be noted:
Do not position the motion sensor facing a window or direct sunlight.
The device is not suitable for use in drafty areas, such as where an air conditioner or fan is installed. Excessive air movement may cause a false alarm.
Avoid aiming the sensor directly at heat sources like fireplaces, radiators, etc.
Mount the sensor in a location where the logical path of an intruder would cut across the viewpoint of the sensor rather than directly toward the device.
Before permanently mounting the motion sensor, perform a walk test to ensure the detection coverage is valid.
Note: A recommended mounting position for a motion sensor should be 6 ft from the floor in the corner of a room (a corner mount is needed). At this height, the device can detect any movement up to 32 ft (±3 ft). Also, a corner-mounted motion sensor can normally offer agreater range of protection than a motion sensor that is mounted flat to the wall.
Mounting your Blue by ADT Motion Sensor
Corner mounting
Remove the mounting bracket from the box.
Mount the bracket with the supplied screws and anchors into the wall’s corner at your desired detection range height.
Note: Make sure the mounting bracket is set up in the correct direction (upward arrow).
Attach the device to the mounting bracket by lining up the 4 pegs from the bracket to the 4 holes in the back of the motion sensor and pulling the sensor down to lock it into place.
Wall mounting
Use the provided double-sided tape adhered to the backside of the motion sensor or use the provided screws/anchors to mount it onto the wall.
Note: First, clean the wall area and allow it to fully dry before mounting your sensor with double-sided tape.
Remove the backing and press and hold the device to the wall for 30 seconds. To mount the sensor using screws, remove the rear cover and use the supplied screws and anchors to mount the rear cover to the wall (note the arrow pointing to “TOP”). Once the rear cover is secured, attach the motion sensor by hooking the top of the sensor on the rear cover and pressing the sensor down to engage the bottom latch.
Factory resetting your ADT Blue Motion Sensor
To factory reset your device:
Press and hold the paring button for 10 seconds and then release it.
The blue LED will blink for 3 seconds when the device resets successfully.
The device will begin pairing mode after reset to factory default.
Note: If the sensor is reset while paired to your account, it will be removed and will need to be set up as a new device.
Changing the name and settings
To change the settings of your motion sensors, log in to the web portal or iOS/Android app and go to Menu > Devices > Sensors >select desired sensor’s name to edit the name and sensor settings.
Stay & Away: Sensors will be monitored in both Stay and Away modes
Away only: Sensors will be monitored only when the system is armed Away
Convenience: Sensors can be configured to chime or create a local alarm when the sensor is faulted (this can be used for cabinets or drawers that do not require emergency assistance when opened)
Chime Chimes are used to alert the user audibly when motion is detected. Set the toggle to off in order to disable the chimes if desired. Advanced settings Advanced settings give you the flexibility to take advantage of sensor features or enable/disable features that may be required for false alarm prevention.
Swinger shutdown - Swinger shutdown is a false alarm prevention tool that prevents alarms from sounding for a specific sensor if it has tripped an alarm multiple times in a 5-minute window. The system default for the number of times a sensor can trip before swinger shutdown kicks in for that sensor is 2. This can be modified under the Security system settings, under Advanced Settings.
Abort window time - The abort window is a feature tied to CP01, a false alarm prevention standard that gives a user 30 seconds before the alarm is sent to the central monitoring station. This allows for a little longer to disarm the system in case the alarm was in error. If you would like the alarm to immediately go to the central monitoring station you must toggle this off.
Cross zoning - When cross zoning is enabled on a sensor, that sensor alone will not trip the alarm. For the alarm to sound, another non-cross zoned sensor must be triggered as well. For example, if you have a sensor on your front door with cross zoning enabled and a motion sensor in the living room without cross zoning enabled, opening the front door won’t trip the alarm unless someone also walks in front of the motion sensor.
