Overview

The Blue by ADT Doorbell Camera enhances your doorbell experience and lets you see who is at your door, talk to your visitors, and stream live video to check in on your home! Push notifications will alert you when your doorbell camera has detected motion or someone rings your doorbell. The doorbell camera replaces your existing doorbell button and powers through your existing doorbell wires. Add your doorbell camera through the Blue by ADT app by saving your home's Wi-Fi network and then holding your phone in front of your doorbell camera to scan the QR code. After scanning the QR code, your Doorbell Camera will be connected to the Wi-Fi network and added to your account so you can use the app to stream live video, listen to audio, and use 2-way talk to speak with visitors. All live streams, snapshots, and recorded clips will be saved in the cloud for your access at any time from the Blue by ADT app. You can view saved media or download clips at any time from the app. Be sure to enable push notifications when using the doorbell camera so you can be notified any time your doorbell rings or detects motion.

Tools required

  • Drill
  • Flathead and Philips screwdrivers

Optional tools

  • Paper clip
    • On the back of the doorbell camera is an on/off toggle which will need to be turned on; oftentimes a paper clip is best for turning this switch to the “on” position.
  • Voltmeter
    • The doorbell camera required 16-24V AC power.
  • Wire-stripping tool

Mounting the doorbell camera

  • Check the voltage of the existing doorbell wiring to ensure that the voltage is between 16-24V AC.
  • Turn off the circuit breaker before disconnecting the existing doorbell button.
  • Disconnect your existing doorbell button.
  • Mark the mounting holes for your power bracket.
    • The provided level can be used for measuring angles to prevent unbalanced mounting.
    • Optional: Use the anchors.
  • Connect existing wires to the power bracket by loosening the screw, wrapping existing wires around screws and then tightening the screws.
    • CAUTION: Make sure power is turned OFF, before touching wires!
  • Secure the power bracket with screws to the wall/door frame.
    • Do not overtighten screws, which can cause the wires to be pinched or the power bracket to be bowed.
  • Turn on the switch on the rear side of the doorbell camera. It will take about 20 seconds to turn on and the LED ring will be solid blue turning this time.
    • On the back of the doorbell camera, open the black weather protective seal and the on/off toggle will be in the center. From left to right will be red reset button, on/off toggle, and micro USB port.
    • TIP: Use a paper clip to switch toggle to ON in the UP position.
  • Clip the doorbell cameras into the mounting bracket by first aligning the top of the doorbell camera with the top of the mounting bracket. Next, press the doorbell cameras into the bottom of the mounting bracket, until you hear it clip in.
  • Using the included hex key, you can secure the doorbell camera to the power bracket with the tamper screw. The screw is located at the bottom of the Doorbell Camera.

Power kit

The power kit included with the Doorbell Camera is a small device that supports doorbell chimes with different kinds of mechanical and digital chimes by going between the doorbell transformer and chime wiring. If you have an existing digital chimer, you must follow the steps below to set up the power kit.
  • CAUTION: Before removing or attaching wires to your original chimer, be sure that the power is turned off at the circuit breaker box. Consult a licensed electrician if needed.
  • Remove the cover from the indoor chimer.
  • Loosen the “front” and “trans” terminal screws on the indoor chimer.
  • Connect white wire from the power kit to the “front” terminal, and the black wire to the “trans” terminal, leaving the existing doorbell wires in place. Then, re-tighten the screws.
  • Position the power kit inside your indoor chimer, away from any moving parts. Use the double-sided tape on the back of the power kit to keep it in place, if desired.
  • Attach the cover back to the indoor chimer.
  • Now you can restore power at the breaker to turn power at the doorbell back on.

Connecting a doorbell camera

Now that your doorbell camera is mounted, you need to add the doorbell camera through your app to connect the doorbell camera to your home's W-iFi. You will need your Wi-Fi network name and password for this step.
  • Launch the app on your Android or iOS device.
  • On the dashboard, select Menu.
    • Enter “master code,” if prompted.
  • Select Devices > select + Add > select Doorbell Camera
  • Follow the in-app instructions for setup help, doorbell naming, selecting existing chime type, saving W-iFi, and setting up your motion zone.
